In a nutshell, a shrub, is a combination of Fruit Juice , Sugars, and Vinegar. The sweet, acidic mixer gets its name from the Arabic word Sharab, which means, “to drink.” A shrub can be consumed on its own with club soda for the perfect “Mocktail”. But, added to cocktails, it provides a distinct tangy bite that adds complexity and a bold depth of flavor.
New World shrubs are a sweetened Fruit or Vegetable Vinegar. The ratio of sweet-to-sour is constantly contested. We tend to sway more sweet than sour in our 3 non-alcoholic blends Strawberry Noir, Tart Cherry Passion Fruit, and Jalapeño Prickly Pear.
Old World shrubs are a citrus syrup created using a mixture of Juice and Essential Oils from the citrus, sugar and either Brandy or Rum alcohol. Ours use a blend of both in our Tangy Lemon Shrub.
